2022-06-13 Collaboration with Toho Gas and TotalEnergies toward Carbon Neutrality - Aiming to Establish a Renewable and Low Carbon Fuels Value Chain

Back

Toyota Tsusho Corporation ("Toyota Tsusho") announces that it has agreed with Toho Gas Co., Ltd. ("Toho Gas") and TotalEnergies to commence a business feasibility study on the establishment of a value chain to introduce renewable and low carbon fuels such as hydrogen and synthetic methane to Japan.

Toyota Tsusho and Toho Gas began their collaboration in August 2021 to contribute toward carbon neutrality in the Chubu region. The agreement aims to expand and to complement the collaboration between the two companies by combining the know-how accumulated by Toho Gas in the LNG supply chain, Toyota Tsusho's expertise in the decarbonized fuel business and TotalEnergies' carbon-neutrality solutions and global portfolio of renewable and low carbon fuels projects, in an effort to further examine the establishment of an optimal value chain.

Specifically, the three companies will join forces to identify and tackle the challenges throughout the value chain of the renewable and low carbon fuels supplied by TotalEnergies, from ocean transportation, domestic receiving, distribution, to usage of hydrogen and synthetic methane in Japan.. They will select suitable sites with the aim of conducting a pilot project and study the feasibility of introduction of these fuels into Toyota Tsusho and Toho Gas activities. The achievement of an integrated value chain from production to sales with long-term, stable and competitive renewable and low carbon fuels will contribute to the decarbonization of the Chubu region in the future.

In order to pass on a better global environment to the children of the future, the Toyota Tsusho group will contribute to the transition to a decarbonized society by accelerating businesses that reduce the greenhouse gas throughout the industrial life cycle and by promoting its initiatives for the carbon neutrality.
